Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS)

Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) is located in the city of Turku and four other municipalities in Southwest Finland. TUAS is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education offering competitive qualifications for international careers in seven educational fields. TUAS provides its students with up-to-date knowledge and skills as well as prepares them for lifelong learning. Language Centre at TUAS was established in 2000. It offers traditional and network-based language and communication training for the TUAS students as well as for corporate customers to meet the needs predominantly based on working life requirements. Language studies for students at TUAS are comprised of core compulsory language and communications training, study program related compulsory and optional courses, as well as free-choice studies. The language centre has actively been developing pedagogical solutions based on the European language portfolio as well as on e-learning. TUAS language centre will act as the coordinator of the project and as the leader for project management. TUAS will participate in all the project work. It will contribute to PELLIC especially with its extensive experience in Practice Enterprise pedagogy (European Commission recognition in 2008), virtual learning pedagogy and virtual content creation in language learning.

Anne-Marie is the Senior Lecturer in Marketing for Telecommunication and e-Business at TUAS. She has worked at TUAS as a lecturer in Marketing since 2001. She has been a tutor for eight Practice Enterprises. Furthermore she has participated in an EU project "Student Entrepreneurship Model Leading to Small and Medium Enterprises -From SEM to SME" - in co-operation with Tallinn University of Technology.

Marjatta is the senior lecturer in English language for Hospitality Management and Beauty Care programs at TUAS. Marjatta has worked at TUAS as an English teacher since 2001 and prior to that at the Polytechnic of South-western Finland since 1996. Before becoming a teacher she worked in corporate communications at Raisio Group plc. She has a Licentiate of Philosophy degree in English. In the context of the Pellic project Marjatta’s role is that of a project coordinator.

Pirjo has worked as the lecturer in English and Swedish language and communications for the Language Centre of Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) since 2003. Prior to that Pirjo worked as the lecturer in English and Swedish for 18 years in vocational Institute in south-western Finland, taught TUAS Language Centre’s corporate customers and worked as a language teacher in Continuing Education and Services (TUAS). Besides that Pirjo has taught in the private sector for over 10 years specializing in technical and commercial English. She has participated in Dilaport project as one of the project teachers of TUAS. She has a Master’s Degree in English and Swedish Language and Communications. In Pellic Pirjo works as the other project coordinator and is especially responsible for the pedagogical and piloting aspects of the project.
